WOMEN'S FILMMAKER BRUNCH
The Complex
Sunday, Oct. 20, 11 a.m.
Sewall-Belmont House, $35

Forlorn fans of the '90s melodrama Melrose Place will find themselves at home and intrigued by The Complex (

), a tale of a bevy of
lesbians co-existing in an apartment building. The show is described on its Web
site as an Internet soap opera later developed for a now-defunct gay cable
network. True to form, there's no lack of sex, intrigue, catty comments or
backstabbing in this complex -- or maybe the name of the show refers to the
emotional problems many of the characters seem to be suffering. It's certainly
not a reflection on the depth of the material. As with the soul-searching
Melrose crowd, at least there's eye-candy here, even if many of the attempts at
humor are eye-rollers. Regardless, the creative team behind The Complex, presents a fun look at
lesbian life in southern California -- just mind whose parking spot you're
taking when you drop by for the afternoon.
