The Metropolitan Police Department is asking Washington's gay community to offer input before finalizing any plans to ''enhance'' access to all of its liaison units, including the Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit. The MPD has released eight dates for upcoming meetings, between late July and early August in all of seven of D.C.'s police districts. Those who are unable to attend the meetings are asked to e-mail questions and concerns to mpdc.liaisonunits@dc.gov.
''Ultimately, the goal is to improve the means by which MPD meets the public safety needs of every resident who calls for service,'' D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a press release.
''I believe that with the input of the community, we can accomplish this goal. I look forward to meeting with the leaders of the GLBT, Latino and Asian communities to formulate a plan to expand MPD's specialized units in a way that will address the unique concerns of our diverse population.''
