Friday, June 27, is National HIV Testing Day. Accordingly, Whitman-Walker Clinic, D.C.'s 30-year leader in GLBT health, will offer free HIV testing at three sites: the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center at 1701 14th St. NW; the Max Robinson Center at 2301 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE; and at WWC of Northern Virginia, in Arlington at 5232 Lee Highway. The 20-minute, oral tests will be offered at all locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition, WWC's mobile testing unit will be available at the Iverson Mall parking lot in Hillcrest Heights, Md., from 5 to 8 p.m., and at Town Danceboutique, 2009 Eighth St. NW, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
''Our mobile units take HIV testing directly to communities at high risk,'' said Bruce Weiss, director of community health for Whitman-Walker, in a prepared statement. ''People who want to get tested can do so at a location and time that is more convenient for them. They will receive the same treatment as anyone who walks into one of our facilities for HIV testing.'' Services include counseling, preventative resources and access to the clinic's services.
