You don't have to be a client of Alpha Drugs to attend the organization's upcoming Christmas party, this year featuring Part 10 of Alpha Drugs' lecture series, on Wednesday, Dec. 15.
Leigh Slaughter of Alpha Drugs describes the lecture, ''A New Era in Treating Hepatitis C and HIV Co-infection,'' presented by Dr. Michael Pistole, as an educational tool that can help those living with HIV.
''[Pharmacy Director Peter Metaxotos] started this years ago and what he would do is get a prominent lecturer or doctor and we would get input from our clients about what they would like to hear,'' Slaughter says.
''Dr. Pistole is going to be talking about some new trends, there's going to be some new meds coming on the horizon that are going to be helpful to people living with HIV or AIDS.''
Slaughter admits that some of the lectures can be ''boring,'' but says that the last lecture, held in May and regarding the beneficial effects of a plant-based diet, was gripping.
''I was rapt,'' she says. ''It was information that I could use, that anybody could use for anything.''
The upcoming Dec. 15 event is free and open to general public.
''We don't limit anybody,'' Slaughter says. ''We have a really nice buffet and because it's Christmas we're going to be [offering] giveaways,'' she says, referring to ''Christmas goody bags.''
''This is in keeping with Metaxotos's vision,'' she says. ''He's been very involved with the community for years.''
