D.C. Leather Pride presented a street festival and fair on Sunday, June 6, 2010, in the parking lot adjacent to the city's longstanding leather bar, the D.C. Eagle, 639 New York Ave. NW.
A touch of rain couldn't keep away the leather-clad throngs. The event included various leather vendors, demonstrations, and even a "puppy" show. "I think the leather community is evolving," said organizer Mike Sessa. "And leather pride is trying to reflect that evolution."
''The leather community is authentic. We are who we are. And we do what we do,'' added Boy Ky of the DC Boys of Leather. ''If you want to do fundraising or philanthropic work in the gay community, you're going to the leather folk. Between the leather folk and the drag folk, we're kind of like the drivers of all the giving in the community.''
