Dance: Until just a few years ago&#44; Joe Goode considered himself a &#39;&#39;puppetphobe&#46;&#39;&#39; &#39;&#39;Puppets seemed like children&#39;s theater&#44;&#39;&#39; says the innovative choreographer&#46; &#39;&#39;The cuteness factor was a bit too much for me&#46;&#39;&#39; Now&#44; however&#44; a puppet plays the lead role in his latest dance&#45;theater piece&#44; Wonderboy&#44; to be performed this weekend at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center&#46; &#39;Wonderboy&#39; &#40;Photo by RJ Muna&#41; Goode&#44; 58&#44; gives credit to New York puppeteer extraordinaire Basil Twist for provoking his &#39;&#39;conversion experience&#46;&#39;&#39; Twist&#39;s puppets &#39;&#39;are so lively and vulnerable and creative&#46; They made me feel something&#44;&#39;&#39; says Goode&#46; His company&#39;s six dancers physically manipulate and interact with the titular three&#45;and&#45;a&#45;half foot puppet&#44; which Goode describes as &#39;&#39;a pre&#45;adolescent child&#44; a queer child too sensitive&#44; too afraid&#46; He slowly begins to realize his own sensitivity is not a liability but an asset&#46;&#39;&#39;  ... Dance: Defying stereotype and tradition&#44; Brian Simerson of MOMIX thinks dance is becoming less gay&#46; &#39;&#39;There do seem to be fewer gay men and lesbians in dance these days&#44; from what I&#39;ve seen&#44;&#39;&#39; says the out Simerson&#44; who has been involved with MOMIX for 15 years&#46; The company has had a few same&#45;sex pieces over the years&#44; and it currently counts two other gay and lesbian dancers in a roster of 20&#46; Still&#44; says the 36&#45;year&#45;old Simerson&#44; even MOMIX &#39;&#39;tends to be more heterosexual&#46;&#39;&#39; Which is not to say it doesn&#39;t have gay appeal&#46;  ...
