UPDATE: Arrest in R Street Murder
Police charge man in shooting of Annie's waiter
Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police announced Thursday evening that Kurt Williams, 19, has been charged with one count of felony murder while armed, in conjunction with the shooting death of Adrien D. Alstad. Alstad was murdered on the 1800 block of R Street NW, in the early hours of Monday morning as he walked home after work from nearby Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse.
Police arrested Williams and two juveniles following a robbery on the 600 block of R Street NW, Wednesday night at approximately 10:15 p.m. As yet, the juveniles have been charged with armed robbery for the Wednesday robbery only. Third District Police Commander Larry McCoy said Williams will be formally charged in D.C. Superior Court on Friday.
“The Metropolitan Police Department has closed the case,” Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans (D) said at the Thursday press conference. “They’ve arrested the perpetrators of the crime in an expeditious fashion.Â… It doesn’t mean the police presence will be reduced. If anything, we will be very diligent and concentrate on the neighborhood because of the increase in street crime that’s taken place there.”
