Wednesday, June 8th

[OFFICIAL EVENT] Mr. and Miss Capital Pride Pageant — Honoring Monet Dupree and Bruce Ashcraft and hosted by Lena Lett. These annual pageants celebrate the talents of the individuals competing and represent the diversity of the LGBT community. The winners are invited to perform on the main stage and appear at other events throughout the year. At Apex, 1415 22nd Street NW. Doors open at 8 p.m. Show starts at 9 p.m. Cover: $10.

[AFFILIATED EVENT] A Journey of Spirit: The Debate over Debbie Friedman — This documentary examines the controversial debate over the music of lesbian singer, songwriter and guitarist Debbie Friedman. A post screening discussion with the film’s director, Ann Coppel, is followed by a 9 p.m. concert by the Fabrangen Fiddlers. [AFFILIATED EVENT] Fashionably Aware Fashion Show — An evening of fashion and celebration featuring the shining stars of local HIV/AIDS organizations. Benefiting Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive (HIPS) and PreventionWorks. In the Lankford Auditorium, at 1200 U Street NW at 7 p.m. Tickets: $25 in advance. $30 at the door. [OFFICIAL EVENT] Mr. Capital Pride Leather Contest 2005 — An official preliminary contest to Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather. The D.C. Eagle, 639 New York Avenue NW (Between 6th and 7th) at 9 p.m. No cover.

Friday, June 10th

[OFFICIAL EVENT] 30th Annual Capital Pride Parade — Marching through the streets of Northwest Washington, D.C., in the heart of Dupont Circle. Parade steps off at 6:30 p.m. Reviewing stand at Whole Foods on P Street (1440 P Street NW, between 15th & 14th Streets NW). NEW EXPANDED PARADE ROUTE: See page 76 for map. [OFFICIAL EVENT] Back to the Future — Start your night immediately following the conclusion of the Capital Pride parade when you are transported (by time machine of course) back to when Wham! ruled, Madonna was causing a commotion and the super freaks were trying to get into 54: the ’70s & ’80s. At midnight, lightning strikes and you’ll instantly find yourself back in 2005. Music all night by DJ Jason Royce. [AFFILIATED EVENT] VoluPalooza III — Fuel up for the Capital Pride Parade this evening with a FUNdraiser for Burgundy Crescent Volunteers, D.C.’s LGBT volunteer organization. Whole Foods Market at 1440 P Street NW is hosting a BCV Sidewalk Festival & BBQ from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m. Music by DJ Eileen Kennedy. Whole Foods Market is donating all the food, cooks, and equipment and all proceeds will be donated to BCV. This isn’t your father’s backyard BBQ!

Sunday, June 12

[OFFICIAL EVENT] 30th Annual Capital Pride Street Festival — Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Capital Pride, more than 200,000 people are expected to enjoy the festival on historic Pennsylvania Avenue with featured entertainers. Street festival opens to the public at 11 a.m.
