Think of ”Art in Heat,” the new exhibit featuring works by 18 emerging and established D.C.-area artists as a pre-release party for the upcoming Fringe Festival. Curated by Scott Brooks, the exhibit, at the Warehouse Arts Complex (1021 7th St. NW), includes works by five gay artists — Margaret Dowell, Linas Garsys, Albert Schweitzer, Alan Defibaugh, as well as Brooks himself, who will unveil a stunning new painting, ”Royally Ducked.” The exhibit opens June 30 at 7 p.m. with a public reception and remains on display through July 30. On the pages that follow, we take a look at what comprises the painted lives of ”Art in Heat’s” five gay and lesbian contributors. For more information on all 18 artists represented in the show or to view a virtual gallery, visit www.artinheat.com.
