Four equal-rights groups in Virginia have joined forces to host two discussion forums for State Senate and House candidates running for office in Fairfax County in the November 2007 state elections.
Equality Fairfax, Equality Virginia, the Virginia Partisans Gay & Lesbian Democratic Club and the Log Cabin Republicans have invited 14 candidates, from three Senate districts and four House districts, to take part in the ”Putting the ‘Fair’ in Fairfax” forum, in which GLBT residents of Fairfax County can air their concerns. Ten candidates have confirmed attendance, according to Sarah Gustafson, president of Equality Fairfax.
”The goal is to educate the GLBT community about where the candidates stand on our issues, as well as other issue that are of interest to our community,” she says.
The Senate candidate forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia, 10383 Democracy Lane in Fairfax; and the House candidate forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Greenbriar Community Center, at 4615 Stringfellow Road in Chantilly.
