The Capital Tennis Association (CTA), the organizer of an annual gay tennis tournament in Washington, donated $19,500 to the Washington AIDS Partnership, on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The donation marks the group’s largest contribution to a beneficiary, according to CTA tournament director Walker Chaffin.
The money was raised during CTA’s 15th annual Capital Classic tournament, sponsored by Brandon Green & Associates, held in D.C. last September.
”One of the CTA members, J. Channing Wickham, happens to be the director of Washington AIDS Partnership. He gave [a presentation] and we thought the money would be used best through him this year,” Chaffin said then of the group’s decision to donate to the organization.
Last year, CTA, a member of the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance, an international group that manages and sanctions the gay and lesbian tennis tournament circuit, donated more than $15,000 to the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League.
