GLAA Announces 2008 Awards

The Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, D.C., has announced its six ”Distinguished Service Award” recipients for 2008, who the group will honor for their efforts at the GLAA’s 37th Anniversary Reception on April 17 at the Washington Plaza Hotel.

The award celebrates local individuals and organizations that have served D.C.’s GLBT community in some way.

This year’s award recipients are Dignity/Washington, which has provided healing outreach to GLBT Catholics since 1972; Christopher Dyer, Director of the D.C. Office of GLBT Affairs; the D.C. Office of Police Complaints; Sanja Partalo, a former staffer for Councilmember Phil Mendelson (D-At Large), who worked on the Domestic Partnership Equality Act of 2005; PreventionWorks!, which provides needle exchange and other harm-reduction services; and Brian Watson, president of the D.C. Coalition of Black Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Men and Women.

A list of past award recipients is available on the GLAA’s Web site, www.glaa.org.
