Whitman-Walker Clinic announced on Tuesday, March 11, that its selection committee has chosen the Capital Pride Alliance to assume ownership of the annual Capital Pride celebration. The clinic will continue as presenting sponsor through the close of the 2008 event, scheduled for June 7-15.
”After 34 years of tremendous growth, under the leadership of Whitman-Walker Clinic and many other supporting organizations, Capital Pride is ready to stand on its own and provide resources and visibility to those organizations that have helped make it a strong, proud symbol of the GLBT community in our nation’s capital,” said Michael Lutz, president of the alliance’s board of directors, in a prepared statement.
The Capital Pride Alliance is comprised of current volunteer members of the Capital Pride planning committee.
Other entities submitting proposals to assume responsibilities for Capital Pride included The Center-Home for GLBT in Metro DC, Washington’s Westminster Presbyterian Church and Jansi LLC, publisher of Metro Weekly.
