About 200 people attended One in Ten’s Fifth Annual Gala, ”Walk the Red Carpet,” at the Woman’s National Democratic Club on Saturday, May 3. The event honored Maryland State Del. Heather Mizeur (D), a Montgomery County lesbian; B.O.I. Productions; and Brandon Fitzgerald.
B.O.I. Productions gives Washington the annual Capital Queer Prom, while Fitzgerald serves as One in Ten’s pro bono general counsel. Fitzgerald was honored for her legislative advocacy of the GLBT community.
”It was so moving,” says Margaret Murray, executive director of One in Ten. ”Every year our gala committee looks at the community as a whole and sees who we think have really served the community well this year.”
One in Ten, founded in 1991, produces Washington’s annual Reel Affirmations International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, as well as other cultural and educational programs.
”We’re really honored to be able to present these awards to theses recipients,” says Murray.
