$10,000 fine + prison for Wisconsin’s same-sex couples married in California?

”If we would go to California and come back here, what are the chances we might be prosecuted?…. Neither of us could afford the legal costs in defending ourselves.”

Dick Myers, a Wisconsin resident who was interested in marrying his gay partner, Steve Brondino, in California until he learned of an existing Wisconsin state law that prohibits residents from entering into marriage elseswhere that would not be legal in their home state. The possible penalty is said to be $10,000 and nine months in jail. (Journal-Sentinel)
