Dallas man sentenced to 30 years for beating and robbery of bisexual man

”A family just lost a son for 30 years. Jimmy’s messed up for the rest of his life. It’s emotional from both sides, but justice has been served, and hopefully this will send a message to the community that these kinds of crimes will be punished to the maximum.”

Michael Robinson, a gay man who testified as an eyewitness to the beating of Jimmy Lee Dean, 43, by two drunken men who robbed Dean and beat him severely causing significant damage to his face. It was alleged that Jonathan Russell Gunter, 32, and Bobby Jack Singleton, 29, had decided to rob a gay man because it would be easer. In an odd twist, Gunter’s younger brother testified that he is gay and that Gunter had even been to the Dallas-area gay bars before. Gunter has been convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
