Rallying for Marriage
Groups plan demonstration of support as marriage equality nears in the District
The Campaign for All DC Families and a coalition of other organizations, including D.C. Clergy United for Marriage Equality and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), present a Rally for Marriage Equality, at 7 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 14, at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 7th St. NW.
”This is about celebrating the work that we’ve been able to do with marriage equality in the District so far, thanking the councilmembers for their efforts and their thoughtfulness in passing marriage-equality legislation to the point where we are now,” says Nick McCoy, a local resident and field organizer for HRC, and a supporter of the Campaign for All DC Families.
”It’s also calling on the councilmembers to pass the final legislation, and to show public support for marriage equality here in the District. Marriage equality is something that crosses all wards and all families. … It’s something that’s beneficial for all families.”
Councilmember David Catania (I-At Large) is scheduled to speak at the rally. Other councilmembers have also been invited to speak.
”Marriage equality sends an imperative message to people who are looking at D.C. right now, and who are paying attention to the decisions that the councilmembers make, and how our community reacts to the advancement of human rights here in our nation’s capital. It’s going to be a beautiful day.”
