Super Sub-Text: “Mario Brothers” video games earn (hidden) gay stars
”When you take the new starred letters and arrange them in that way, they spell out a new message, apparently. It is now an answer to the original game’s message. Where the first title says ‘UR MR GAY,’ Mario Galaxy 2 responds with ‘YA I M R U?’ Translated from Internet speak, that means ‘Yeah, I am, are you?’”
Jim Sterling, a video game enthusiast for the blog Destructoid, on revelations that the title art for “Super Mario Galaxy” and the upcoming “Super Mario Galaxy 2” may be exchanging secret gay text messages. Apparently, if you take a close look at the logos of the popular Nintendo Wii gaming titles, you’ll notice that some of the letters have little, white highlights on their bottom corners. And if you follow the forwards-backwards instructions of Sterling and friends, you could find yourself a texting-type shorthand message with gay innuendo. (Destructoid)
