Lesbian student sent to phony prom location: Other students go to “secret” second location
”They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them. The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to.”
Constance McMillen, the openly lesbian student who made lots of headlines this year by suing her Mississippi school district after her principal would not allow her to bring a female date or to wear a tuxedo. It was widely reported last week that McMillen had finally been invited to a non-school-sponsored prom. But she tells the Advocate now that, when she arrived at the country club location, only five other students were there — two of which were reportedly special education students. All the other students secretly went to a second prom which parents had organized. She says her feelings were hurt, but that the students who were directed made the best of if. Meanwhile, Facebook posts and photos of the second prom appear to confirm the worst. The ACLU is said to be looking into the matter, and it is suspected that officials may have been involved in the ruse. Her principal and other teachers apparently served as “chaperons” at the fake dance. (The Advocate) (NMissCommentor)
