”After listening to some of the voices in the trans community, I’ve decided to remove those references from the trailer…. It seems that the association between their brutal stories and the revenge/thriller content of the film in its entirety has been difficult to connect.”
Israel Luna, director of the controversial, new, low-budget film, “Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives.” The film’s original trailer cited the murders of real people — Angie Zapata and Jorge Mercado — to promote it’s storyline of transgender bashing and revenge. (NY Times)
”We’re not calling for censorship — anyone can make whatever film they want…. We’re protesting Tribeca for putting this film in a competition for an award because that will make people look at this as an example…. The filmmaker is suggesting that the worst punishment we could dish out is to turn someone trans — to turn someone into one of us. It’s misogynistic.”
Denise Leclair of the International Foundation for Gender Education, telling the NY Times of her objections to the transgender revenge fantasy film called, “Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives.” The Times reports that a small crowd gathered to protest the film’s use of violence against transgenders, and the revenge tactic the characters use — castration of the bad guys. The protesters also seemed to be using the event to highlight the recent murders of transgender individuals including Amanda Gonzalez-Andujar who was strangled last week. (NY Times)
