Rep. Mark Souder resigns: Another gay rights opponent “sinned against God” with sex scandal [video]

”I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual affair with a part-time member of my staff. In the poisonous environment of Washington, DC, any personal failing is seized upon, and twisted for political gain.”

Mark Souder, US Representative for the 3rd District of Indiana crying about anonymous tips that exposed his cheating ways. A video of Souder and the woman he allegedly had an affair with, Tracy Jackson, is making the rounds on the internet today. In the video, they argue for abstinence only education and against the discussion of condoms in sex education. He does not appear to be apologizing for his attacks on the rights of gay people for his political gain. Boo, hoo. (Washington Post)

”Rep. Souder proves once again that it’s not LGBT people who are the threat to ‘family values.’ The good citizens of Indiana would be well served to elect a successor who in both word and deed more closely mirrors their own values of equality and respect for all people.”

Michael Cole, spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, reacting to the resignation of “family values” Representative Mark Souder. (Metro Weekly)

  • Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC. (Jul 1999)
  • Voted YES on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage. (Sep 2004)
  • Voted YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. (Jul 2006)
  • Amend Constitution to define traditional marriage. (Jun 2008)
  • Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. (Nov 2007)

Political record of Mark Souder the disgraced Republican conservative from Indiana. You can see here that he has a consistent record of voting in favor of discrimination against gay people in favor of married heterosexual couples. If the new revelations are true, it’s just one more case recently of a married conservative using “family values” and anti-gay politics to deflect attention from his own shameful infidelity.
