Gay Minnesota police officer files discrimination suit over harassment
”He tried so many times to deal with it internally because he did not want to have his career derailed by this…. He wasn’t flaunting his sexuality, and he wasn’t in the closet either. Really, they had no reason to bring it up and totally throw his great performance to the side.”
Lori Peterson, attorney for Sean Lathrop, 27, who was a police officer for St. Cloud, MN for more than three years, but says he quit because of harassment from fellow officers who found out he was gay. Apparently, the police department of Minneapolis, MN asked the St Cloud department if Lathrop could do community outreach during a Gay Pride event. SCTimes reports that Lathrop is seeking $150,000 in punitive and compensatory damages. (Star Tribune) (SCTimes)
