Sen. Orrin Hatch: Gays ”don’t pay tithing” was meant as a compliment

”Gays and lesbians don’t pay tithing, their religion is politics.”

I don’t know how I could have been much more complimentary the way I said it…. There are some very, very good gay people who are very religious who undoubtedly pay tithing… That wasn’t what I was talking about. I was talking about politics and praising them for getting involved. I was making the point that they don’t just stand on the side, they actually support their Democratic candidates with their money.”

US. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) on his earlier statement that gays don’t pay tithing. He claims the quote was a distortion and taken out of context. According to OnTheIssues, Senator Hatch has a terrible record — voting against gay equality again and again, including a vote to change to the US Constitution to ban gay marriage.
