Target protest morphs into HRC anger, animation, and Depeche Mode marching band [video]
”All fair-minded Americans will now rightly question Target’s commitment to equality. If their initial contribution was a slap in the face, their refusal to make it right is a punch in the gut and that’s not something that we will soon forget. However, with full marriage equality hanging in the balance in Minnesota, regardless of Target, it’s important that we as a community send a message that we will work tirelessly to elect pro-equality candidates.”
Joe Solmonese as quoted in a press release from the Human Rights Campaign. The gay rights organization appears to be saying that talks between leadership at Target Corporation and HRC have not gone well. HRC seems to want Target to make a donation to LGBT organizations. (HRC.org) (LA Times)
Target last month made a hefty donation to a business PAC, MN Forward, and that PAC has decided to support Tom Emmer for Governor. Emmer has reportedly voted against equality for gay partnerships and his platform states he only supports male-female marriages. Until recently, HRC had posted online that Target deserved its highest recognition of LGBT support. Other businesses, including Best Buy donated to the same fund, but Target’s was apparently the largest.
