DC Shorts Film Festival
Washington's only festival solely devoted to films with run times 20 minutes or less returns for a seventh year with 97 films screening in nine different showcases. Included this year is the 2010 Oscar Winner for Best Documentary Short Music for Prudence as well as several of GLBT interest, including Kent Thomas's Broken, about an unrepentant young hustler (trailer below); Julia Kots's Nothing Happened, about an uncomfortable secret among girlfriends; Christina Choe's The Queen, delving into a nerdy boy's fantasies about the prom; and Jonathan Lisecki's Gayby, in which a gay man and his straight female best friend make a baby "the old fashioned way." The DC Shorts Film Festival opens today and runs through Thursday, Sept. 16, with programs screening at Landmark's E Street Theater, 555 11th St. NW, and U.S. Navy Memorial's Burke Theater, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
