Marina and the Diamonds at the 9:30 Club

Marina and the Diamonds

Born 24 years ago in Wales to Welsh and Greek parents, Marina Diamandis comes across like a smarter, more musically adept Ke$ha or Katy Perry — or really, like Gwen Stefani’s younger sister. (And maybe Regina Spektor’s cousin?) Marina and the Diamonds is her full stage name — the act really is just her and her quirky pop songs, about being “obsessed with the mess that’s America” and declaring, “I am not a robot.” Indeed, she seems too unscripted to be anything but flesh and blood. Check out the “I’m Not a Robot” video below. Simple, yet visually arresting. Monday, Sept. 6. Doors at 7 p.m. Nightclub 9:30, 815 V St. NW. Tickets are $15. Call 202-265-0930 or visit 930.com.
