Rachel Maddow covers court decision “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell;” gay baiting by Christine O’Donnell of Delaware [video]

”I was kind of shaking my head in wonder. This is what the Justice Department’s argument was: They wanted to know how I showered and how I slept througout my entire military career. And it just goes to highlight the parnoia and outright homophbia that was evident in 1993 when Congress passed this law. And that was the whole point of their argument — was the privacy and the dreaded shower issue…. Their argument has not changed in 17 years…. The Justice Department now has the unenviable position of having to defend this law. So it will be interesting to see how the Administration and Justice Department responds to this — if they let the decision stand? If they appeal it…? It’s rather interesting.”

”I think that that’s a very tacky approach. I never said that Mike Castle was gay… I don’t endorse putting out rumors that Mike Castle is gay.”

”You know, these are the types of cheap, underhanded, unmanly tactics that we’ve come to expect from Obama’s favorite Republican, Mike Castle. You know, I released a statement today saying, ‘Mike this is not a bake-off. Get your man pants on.”’

Public statements made by Christine O’Donnell, a Tea Party Republican Candidate for US Senate from Delaware, talking about Mike Castle, her Republican opponent. Rachel Maddow uses these statements as proof that some Tea Party-backed candidates are indeed using anti-gay tactics to qualify for office this year. (Rachel Maddow Show)
