”I do [believe that being gay is a choice]. Based on what? I guess you can choose who your partner is… I think that birth has an influence over it, like alcoholism and some other things, but I think that basically, you have a choice.”
Ken Buck who is running as the Republican candidate for a seat as US Senator from Colorado. He appeared on ”Meet the Press” to debate Michael Bennett. (Meet The Press)
Buck’s position against allowing lesbian and gay men to serve in the US Military is disappointing. It was reported last month that he thinks the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy ”makes a lot of sense” and that discussing gay people’s ”lifestyle choices” would be a distraction. He is a District Attorney, and once broke ground by successfully prosecuting the murder of a transgender woman, Angie Zapata, as a hate crime.
”I am not a biologist and I haven’t studied the issue, but that’s my opinion…. I wasn’t talking about being gay as a disease. I don’t think that at all and I hope that no one would be that insensitive to try to draw that…I certainly didn’t mean it that way.”
Speaking with reporters after appearing on ”Meet The Press,” Ken Buck sought to clarify part of his disparaging remark about gay people. (National Journal)
