Internet match: Transgender woman in UK marries Jamaican woman

The happy couple: Six foot two inch former fireman Kerry Whybrow and Alicia Evans tie the knot”There were a few strange looks from the locals when we came out of the register office but we don’t care about that…. I don’t think this is what she dreamed of in life. I’m incredibly lucky to have found somebody who loves me for being me, after spending so much of my life as a man, always feeling something was not right.”

Kerry Whybrow, 66, who is reported to have married Alcia Evans, 37, after meeting through a dating website. Evans is a Jamaican woman who had been living in Salt Lake City. As reported by the Daily Mail, Whyrow had been married three times previously in England as a man, and had begun living as a woman in 2002 after the end of his third marriage. She underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2008. Whybrow’s last wife attended the wedding, but her estranged daughter did not. Evans reportedly has a son who lives in Jamaica with his grandparents. The UK has civil partnerships for gay and lesbian couples that are essentially equal to marriages. News has also arrived that the religious component of ceremonies may soon be allowed, as well. AFP quotes a spokesman from the Home Office as saying:

”The government is currently considering what the next stage should be for civil partnerships, including how some religious organisations can allow same-sex couples to register their relationship in a religious setting if they wish to do so…. Ministers have met a range of people and organisations to hear their views on this issue. An announcement will be made in due course.”
