Tennessee school bill would prevent any discussion of homosexuality [video]
”The Don’t Say Gay bill raises all kinds of issues about anti-gay bias, free speech and government overreach. It limits what teachers and students are able to discuss in the classroom…. It means they can’t talk about gay issues or sexuality even with students who may be gay or have gay family.
Ben Byers of the Tennessee Equality Project which is fighting against a bill that has been introduced in the state House and Senate. A supporter of the bill, Matthew Parsons, tells Volunteertv (a CBS affiliate) that he supports the legislation because it restricts sex talk in schools to age-appropriate material, then he adds that homosexuality involves acts that are unhealthy for anyone to engage in outside of marriage. The bill reportedly contains the following line:
”No public elementary or middle school shall provide any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality.”
