Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry’s gay obssessions explained by Young Turks
Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks says his news team has the answers as to why two Presidential candidates are clawing at gay people this past week.
TYT discussed Michele Bachman‘s illogical claim that gays have the same right to marriage as other Americans, they can get married — that is, men can marry women, women can marry men, and same-sex marriage is not allowed because it is not the law of the land.
”That makes no sense. And we’ve actually covered that before…. They say, ‘You know they have the same rights as everybody else, except they don’t have the same rights — they can’t marry one another.’ Right?
”But we realized this morning why she said that. She’s like, ‘What? Gay people can get married. They just have to marry someone of the opposite sex.’
”Hello! That’s what her husband did. She’s like, ‘Yeah, look at Mr. Bachmann, he’s gay and he married me. So, there you go. Gays have marriage rights just like everybody else.’ … These guys eventually let you know what’s in their head. That was pretty telling.”
And, regarding Rick Perry‘s ridiculous ad that pits children celebrating Christmas against gay people serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, Uygur said:
“It’s a fascinating thing that Rick Perry is obsessed with this gay rights issue, and decided that he’s going to mount his comeback on this idea of attacking gay Americans.
”Austin Chronicle had this to say in one of their stories about Rick Perry: ‘The issue is Rick’s alleged infidelity with one or another member of his administration with undetermined gender.’ Interesting…. Do you think that they didn’t know if it was a male or female, or they looked at the person and they just couldn’t determine their gender? … They don’t write that by mistake.”
Sam Stein at Huffington Post has some more insight today into how Perry’s anti-gay, “war on religion” ad was crafted by his GOP operatives, along with details of his ties to allegedly gay-supportive Republicans. Though the end of Stein’s post claims Perry has not formally come out for reinstating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Perry did tell Wolf Blitzer on TV yesterday that he would “absolutely” reinstate the military’s discriminatory policy. He alleged there are “unit cohesiveness” problems because of the repeal despite military leaders reports that there are none.
