A John Waters Christmas returns to the Birchmere
Christmas in July? Well, sort of. Tickets go on sale this Friday, July 27, for John Waters return to the Birchmere in December. The legendary Baltimore filmmaker’s one-man “command performance” show at the Birchmere is motivated by a genuine love for Christmas. In fact, the show explores the gay and sexual possibilities of the holiday. As he told Metro Weekly’s Randy Shulman in 2009, in a conversation later hand-picked by the filmmaker to appear in a compendium of interviews with him: “Is Santa erotic? That is a question with the bear movement. Is he a silver fox? Is he a bear? …Suppose you are attracted to Santa — does that make you a Santa hag? Can you have sex in a chimney? Are you a flue queen? There are all sorts of possibilities that I talk about.” Tickets on sale Friday, July 27, at noon for the show Monday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria.
