Reel Affirmations resumes its monthly film screening series with the 2011 Beauty, winner of the Queer Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival and South Africa’s official entry to the Academy Awards. Oliver Hermanus’s film focuses on a married successful Afrikaner who has developed something of a psychological apartheid in which his homosexual feelings are repressed — until he meets the young, handsome son of an old friend at his daughter’s wedding reception.
