Mary Chapin Carpenter at Wolf Trap

Mary Chapin Carpenter

Having got her start in bars and coffeehouses in the D.C. area in the early ’80s, Mary Chapin Carpenter is a “Hometown Girl” par excellence. The country singer-songwriter, who now lives in Charlottesville, Va., told Metro Weekly that Wolf Trap, where she performs almost every year, “is one of my most treasured and favorite places.” This Saturday, Aug. 18, folk legend Loudon Wainwright III joins her as a special guest at the large outdoor venue. Carpenter tours in support of her 12th studio set Ashes & Roses, which may be her most personal, most powerful, yet. Wainwright tours in support of Older Than My Old Man Now, a reflection on life and death that features his three musician children: Rufus, Martha and Lucy Wainwright Roche. Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 p.m., at The Filene Center at Wolf Trap, 1551 Trap Road, Vienna. Tickets are $25 to $42. Call 877-WOLFTRAP or visit wolftrap.org.
