Samsung announces August release of Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Note

Samsung has announced it will release The Galaxy Note 10.1 “globally in August.” The exact date has not yet been specified.

Ben Woods in ZD Net UK writes:

While the Note 10.1 looks similar to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and obviously has the same-sized display, it comes with the addition of the ‘S’ Stylus for quick notes or sketches found in the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note handset.

“The Galaxy Note 10.1 is a product we are very excited about and will offer our customers a new way to use and experience a tablet device. As well as being able to consume content such as videos, photos, document and the internet, the Galaxy Note 10.1 also gives them the power to produce, create and customise that same content,” Simon Stafford, vice president of the telecommunications and networks division at Samsung UK and Ireland, said in a statement on Monday.

The new note will run on the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android, however Samsung hinted it would eventually bring Jelly Bean, the latest version of the Android OS, to the tablet.

The device will feature a 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, a 1.9-megapixel forward-facing camera and rear-mounted 5-megapixel camera. One exciting feature is the ability to support multiple tasks on a single screen. For instance, reports Wood, “it is possible to browse the web or watch a video while taking notes or drawing a picture in the other half of the screen using the S Pen.”

Regarding the S Pen, Woods notes, it will be “housed in its own dedicated slot and, when removed, activates apps specifically designed to make use of the input, such as launching the S Note, S Planner, Crayon physics, Adobe Photoshop Touch or Polaris Office applications.”

The Galaxy Note 10.1 will be available in 16, 32 or 64GB versions, support microSD storage expansion up to an additional 64GB, and come with Wi-Fi-only or Wi-Fi plus HSPA+ options.
