Chris Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings appeared on CNN Tuesday to discuss several political issues, but primarily the NFL player addressed the buzz surrounding his notable stance in favor of marriage equality.
Kluwe told correspondent Poppy Harlow that gay Americans are not benefiting equally under the law. And, regarding his famous letter to Maryland Delegate Emmett C. Burns, he stated:
“It shouldn’t be news when someone speaks out for equality. It should be news when someone speaks out against equality.”
Kluwe is also featured in this month’s issue of Out magazine where he discusses his other interests in science fiction, video games and athletics. He explains his motivation to address same-sex marriage issues this way:
“Treat other people as you want to be treated. It’s that simple. It’s something that needs to be spoken about, and it’s something I can do while fulfilling my job as a football player.”
He also appeared in a video to ask his fellow Minnesotans to vote against an amendment to the state constitution that will ban marriages for same-sex couples.
