The Birchmere has done it again, snagging a breakthrough act — before the act has actually broken through. Following in the footsteps of British folk singer Corinne Bailey Rae and British electro-folk rock band Mumford & Sons, the intimate Alexandria venue presents Lianne La Havas for a Veteran’s Day Weekend concert. NPR has touted the new British folk/pop chanteuse “the stuff of Best New Artist Grammys,” and the New Yorker has praised her live show as “stunning.” Metro Weekly’s Doug Rule also praised the India.Arie-esque artist’s “charming, smoky alto” and “her originality” in a four-star review of her debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough? Once you’ve heard it, the answer to her titular query is an emphatic yes. Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. The Birchmere, 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria. Tickets are $20. Call 703-549-7500 or visit birchmere.com.
