Game Night

JR.'s brining back ''The Feud'' for raucous Wednesdays

You might be considered a D.C. old-timer if you remember ”The Feygala Feud” at JR.’s Bar. Ester Goldberg got out there and, with the help of a strapping ”Dick Dawson,” asked teams to take a crack at what the surveys said. It got so popular that even Tammy Baldwin – make that Sen.-elect Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) – and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) got in on the act.

But that was years ago, says JR.’s general manager Dave Perruzza. Long before the since-closed Titan bar started its own ”Feud” parody event, and JR.’s and Goldberg got into a legal tug-o-war over their original iteration.

”It was petty,” Perruzza says plainly. ”People just got sick of it.”

That, of course, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a lot of fun. So Perruzza is bringing The Feud back, starting Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 10:30 p.m., when two teams of four will battle it out for a $200 prize. For this first night back, Perruzza says he’ll play the role made famous by Richard Dawson and continued today on Family Feud by Steve Harvey. He notes that it’s a temporary move, though.

”I’m doing the first week to show Ba’Naka how it’s done,” he says, referring to his D.C. drag diva in Feud training. ”And we’re going to have a really hot ‘Dick Dawson.’ He’s one of Ba’Naka’s boys – she’s always got hot muscle boys – who’s got the [Wheel of Fortune co-host] Vanna White role.”

While the Perruzza-Ba’Naka handover is one change in store, that change is just part of new Wednesday nights at JR.’s.

”Every Wednesday night at 10:30 we’ll have some game,” Perruzza says, adding that for the near future the crowd can expect the Feud, with rules like the TV original, but a few gay-bar twists. ”It’s definitely a lot naughtier than the TV version.”

After all, how often does the TV version ask questions about lube? Survey says you’ll have to hit JR.’s to find out.

JR.’s presents The Feud Wednesday nights at 10:30, starting Jan. 9. Teams of four interested in competing should contact Perruzza at jrsdave@aol.com. For more information about JR.’s, located t 1519 17th St. NW, call 202-328-0090 or visit jrsbardc.com.
