American Airlines, US Airway hook up for Valentine’s Day

American Airlines and US Airways yesterday released a joint statement announcing that the boards of directors of both companies have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement under which the companies will combine to create the world’s largest carrier.

While the merger of the two airlines is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2013, according to the statment, the merger is conditioned on the approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, regulatory approvals, approval by US Airways shareholders, other customary closing conditions, and confirmation and consummation of the plan.

The companies also reported that during the period between the signing and closing of the transaction, a transition-planning team comprised of leaders from both companies will develop an integration plan to help assure a smooth and sustainable transition.

When contacted today, American Airlines had no comment about the future of its Rainbow TeAAm, the airlines dedicated LGBT sales team.
