Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, the archbishop of Paris, telling a gathering of French bishops April 16 that legalizing same-sex marriage could incite violence, arguing that differences between men and women are somehow key to managing societal friction, and that these differences will be ignored by marriage equality. French protests against marriage equality, led largely by Catholic-backed groups, have become increasingly contentious as the government is expected to pass such a law next week. (Reuters)
