Amazon UK has tentatively priced Microsoft’s Xbox One, revealed last week, at over $900. Worry not, however, as the finished item is likely to cost half that when it launches later this year.
The site’s preorder page lists the console at £599 ($902), while its German counterpart, Amazon.de, lists it at €599 ($774). Amazon has a history of overpricing an unknown item and then dropping it to the actual price upon confirmation, but given the modern hardware inside the new Xbox, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a final price somewhere close to $500. The PS3 launched at $499, an unthinkably high price at the time but one many were willing to pay.
Microsoft has yet to reveal any pricing strategy for the Xbox One, with more details sure to follow at E3 next month, which incidentally Metro Weekly will be attending to bring you the latest news fresh from the show floor. We’re just considerate like that.
