One of two holiday music cabarets this season at Signature Theatre, A Matt Conner Christmas features local gay actor and musical composer Matt Conner (Crossing, Nevermore) singing and playing piano, performing some of his favorite Christmas standards — “Children, Go Where I Send Thee” and “Ave Maria” among them — as well as a few of his own original holiday songs. Here’s hoping he performs the moody “Snow,” from his strong 2010 instrumental Christmas set Winter — which also included a dazzling, multi-tempo, dramatic rendering of “Jingle Bells.” Consider that Metro Weekly’s request, Matt.
But Conner won’t do it all alone: He’s enlisted other Signature Theatre staples to sing with him, including Chris Sizemore (Miss Saigon, Crossing), Kara-Tameika Watkins (Dreamgirls) and of course his husband Stephen Gregory Smith (Miss Saigon, Hairspray).
Opens tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. Additional performances Thursday, Dec. 12, through Saturday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. ARK Theatre at Signature Theatre, 4200 Campbell Ave., Arlington. Tickets are $48.60. Call 703-820-9771 or visit signature-theatre.org.
