The weather in Washington, DC is heating up and so are the city’s rooftop lounges.
Kimpton’s DNV Rooftop is ready for the season. Perched 14-stories atop the Donovan House hotel at Thomas Circle, DNV Rooftop is open to the public every evening and serves modern Asian cuisine from Zentan’s chef Jennifer Nguyen, and inspired handcrafted cocktails from mixologist Jon Harris.
For the 2014 season, Chef Nguyen has introduced a line-up of Asian tacos (inspired by her time spent in Austin, Texas) including a Tamarind Barbacao Beef Taco with kimchee, pickled onions, jalapenos, yuzu crema and a Wild Mushroom Taco with seasonal mushrooms, five spice mole, pickled red onions. In addition, DNV will serve Mung Bean Tamale Cakes with shredded braised chicken, house red curry, radishes and Mazeman Noodles with peppered ground beef, cucumber, bean sprouts, bell peppers, ramen noodles and a peanut sauce.
To complement the food, Harris has crafted a series of Asian street drinks including the
“Tidal Basin Picnic Special” with Clear Creek Kirschwasser, lemon, Liqueur de Violette, and bitter lemon soda; the “Tokyo Gimlet” with Tanqueray Gin or Belvedere Vodka and a house made yuzu-lime cordial; and the “Red Silk Slipper” with Valentine White Blossom Vodka, rhubarb shrub, Teavine Green Tea Sparkling Wine.
With some of the most amazing views of the National Monument and the White House, P.O.V. atop the W Hotel has been named among the best hotel bars in the United States by USA Today. Its talented mixologists have crafted a number of new cocktails for the spring including the “Juice and Gin” with gin, lemon, grapefruit, berry and rosemary; and the “Feeling Groggy” with Banks Rum, lime, grapefruit and dram.
P.O.V. is open at 3 p.m. during the week and at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There is live music on Friday nights and a DJ on Saturday nights. P.O.V. is especially worth visiting for its “Sundays on the Terrance” brunch. Its a la carte menu includes tasty dishes such as the chocolate chip fritters, beef short rib steam buns, and chicken and waffle. There are also pitchers of Bloody Mary, mimosa, white peach bellini and sangria available.
Beacon Bar and Grill’s Sky Bar on the roof of The Beacon Hotel and Corporate Quarters in the Dupont Circle neighborhood is an uplifting seasonal escape. It is open for happy hour and evening cocktails with daily food and drink specials.

In June, The Embassy Row Hotel, by Destination Hotels & Resorts, will debut The Rooftop, its remodeled rooftop terrace and pool lounge. Located on the Dupont Circle hotel’s 9th floor, the terrace offers astonishing 360 degree views of the city. Planned improvements include teak plush seating, lounge chairs around the pool, modern landscape architecture, and tea lights. The upgrades are part of a larger $15 million dollar renovation that will also include changes to the hotel’s lobby, a new fitness center, and a makeover of all 231 guestrooms.
The terrace will be open for happy hour and evening cocktails and offer light fare such as watermelon pizza, fresh tacos, and grilled German pretzels. Access to The Rooftop will be open to hotel guests, private parties, invited guests and members as well as via a limited number of day passes.
