4. Get their feet wet. The quickest way to cool an overheating dog is through his feet.
“Dogs don’t sweat like people,” Drummond explains. “They only manage their heat through their breathing and through their feet.” So instead of hosing down overheating dogs, encourage them to drink cool water, or to dab cool water on their feet. “Sometimes, in emergency settings, we’ll even pour rubbing alcohol on their feet for evaporative cooling.”
