Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi To The Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) presents his latest documentary, focused on one of the world’s most dynamic and enduring personalities in music, the late, great Nigerian, Fela Kuti. Previously the subject of the hit eponymous Broadway musical, Kuti is viewed in documentary-style in Gibney’s film, which examines the Afrobeat pioneer’s life and especially his influence, which extends well beyond the fact that two of his sons, Femi and Seun, are both band leaders and touring musicians. Opens today, Aug. 8, at Landmark’s E Street Cinema, 555 11th St. NW in Washington and other select cities. Call 202-452-7672 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
