Hot sauce is booming at the moment — especially hot sauce crafted with Ghost Peppers, which doesn’t just burn your tounge, it sears your soul. In a good, non-Christian way. And the Carrollton, Va.-based Smackason’s has a Ghost Pepper sauce that’s as hot as they come, yet it’s balanced by the tang of tropical fruits. In addition to sauces and marinades, Smackason’s offers a selection of blended spice rubs. The sauces were hands-down the best we sampled at the show. As for the name? Owner Reginald Knight explained that he had created for his son an avatar in a wrestling video game, naming it Smackason. When it came time to name the products, the son suggested dad name the company after the avatar. Brings a tear to our eyes, while the sauce brings a fire to our hearts. We’re not sure Smackason’s is the next Heinz in terms of household names, but we are sure that every household should have at least one bottle of Smackason’s in its pantry.
