—Rick Santorum, Republican candidate for president, speaking with Erin Burnett on CNN.
“Here is the thing I always say — never ask anyone why they’re voting for you,” he said. “Because you probably won’t like the answer. Because people vote for you for all sorts of reasons. And that’s fine. I accept whatever reason anybody wants to vote for me, whoever they are.”
Santorum has previously stated he wouldn’t attend gay weddings, supports denying service to gay people, and once chided a man for trying to bowl with a pink ball. He also previously stated that he believes Caitlyn Jenner is “obviously and biologically” a man.
“If Bruce Jenner says he’s woman then I’m not gonna argue with him,” he said. “I know what obviously and biologically he is. That doesn’t change by himself identifying himself. His genetics and DNA isn’t changing.”
Jenner identified as Republican during her landmark interview with Diane Sawyer earlier this year.
