Caitlyn Jenner has officially filed papers to have her name and gender legally recognized.
On Tuesday, Jenner filed with the Superior Court of California to have her name changed to “Caitlyn Marie Jenner.”
“Petitioner now seeks to change her legal name and gender pursuant to California Code of Civil Procedure … in order to conform to her gender identity,” she wrote in her filing — which identified her under her birth name, William Bruce Jenner.
However, Jenner has also requested that the court keep some details of her filing private.
“Although public support for my transition has been overwhelmingly supportive,” she wrote, “I am also receiving unwelcome negative attention from private citizens, including threats of bodily harm.”
Jenner recently came under fire from Ellen DeGeneres after admitting on the latter’s daytime talk show that she struggled with accepting marriage equality. Her conservative, Republican politics have increasingly put the star — considered by many the new face of the transgender community — at odds with the more liberal-biased LGBT community.
