In the wake of Donald Trump's win in the 2024 election, some voters have been receiving offensive text messages.
The FBI said in a statement that it is aware of a flood of texts aimed at LGBTQ people being told to report to a "re-education camp," an apparent reference to conversion therapy.
Diana Brier, a 41-year-old lesbian, told The New York Times that she received one of the texts referring to an executive order and instructing her to check in to be transported to an undisclosed location for an "LGB re-education camp." The message also mentioned Trump and the date of his inauguration.
A drag queen featured in a Trump attack ad against Kamala Harris is considering filing a lawsuit against the former president's campaign for using her image without permission.
As Metro Weekly previously reported, the ad attacks Harris for supporting gender-affirming care to transgender prisoners. It features clips and photos of Harris interspersed with interviews she's given, pictures of Biden administration officials, and a video of her posing for a photo with a drag queen during a 2022 Pride Month event.
The spot is intended to sway Americans uncomfortable with gender nonconformity and transgender visibility into voting for former President Donald Trump.
Cher has endorsed Kamala Harris for president.
"I have followed Kamala Harris since she was my U.S. senator," the music legend said in a video posted to social media last weekend. "She fought for me then, and she is fighting for all of us now. That's why I'm proudly voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz."
She added, "I know they will fight to protect our rights, and I'm so grateful to be able to make my voice count this year. I hope you will too."
