If you’re looking to celebrate pride in a different way and in a new place, consider exploring the newly developing area in Northern Virginia some are calling Tysons East.
It’s there you’ll find the new Capital One Center, the arts and entertainment district that’s part of the new Capital One corporate headquarters.
The center’s organizers have wasted no time in lining up a series of special events under the banner “Celebrate Pride at Capital One Center,” a month-long celebration that also feature merchandise and other specialty items, the sales of which will benefit SMYAL.
Most everything takes place in the open-air atop the 11th floor, home to Starr Hill Biergarten, which is serving a pint of a special Love brew and “Love is Love” merchandise, proceeds of which benefit SMYAL.
The Biergarten will host a Drag Bingo Night promising “an exciting twist on a familiar game,” starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21. A few days later, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will make the trek to Tysons to perform the cabaret “It’s a GAS!,” GAS being an acronym for the Great American Songbook. This special cabaret will be performed twice in The Vault of the new Capital One Hall, at 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. Tickets are $45.
Of course, any day of the week you can play a round of Pride Putt complete with rainbow golf balls. The new Perch Putt offers an 18-hole miniature game of golf in a setting that’s hard to beat, its elevated perch offering expansive views of the Northern Virginia skyline and the Shenandoah Mountains in the distance.
Opt for a Tropical Popsicle from Rhum Roost, one of the nearby food and drink purveyors, and $1 will be donated to SMYAL.
Of course, if you’d like to really indulge for the occasion, consider staying overnight in an elevated suite at the Watermark Hotel, with complimentary breakfast in The Aviary included in your stay, and with 10% of booking proceeds going to SMYAL.
Capital One Center is at 1805 Capital One Dr., Tysons.
